Dr. John Johnson and Chuck Fields Will Present a Webinar on Economic Consulting

Dr. John Johnson, Edgeworth CEO, president and partner, and Chuck Fields, an Edgeworth partner, will present a Webinar on economic consulting at Georgetown University on Tuesday, October 15, from 12:30-1:30 pm EDT.

They will be discussing how Recent Supreme Court decisions, including Comcast v. Behrend and Wal-Mart v. Dukes, have highlighted the important role that rigorous, scientific expert analysis can play in determining the outcomes of major litigation matters.  E.G., the central issue in Comcast v. Behrend was “whether a district court may certify a class action without resolving whether the plaintiff class has introduced admissible evidence, including expert testimony, to show that the case is susceptible to awarding damages on a class-wide basis.” These recent cases have demonstrated that the rigorous tools of empirical economics can be used to address important legal issues, further emphasizing the importance of economists' roles in these matters.

They will also explore the different ways that economic and statistical experts can provide necessary information and evidence in litigation and will discuss the standards for admissibility of expert testimony, the credibility of expert testimony and best practices for working effectively with an expert.
