Bio

Dr. Fei Deng is a partner in the San Francisco office of Edgeworth Economics and leads the firm’s China Competition Economics practice. Dr. Deng specializes in applying economic and econometric tools to gain insight into key issues, and then presenting the results in a way that is easy for the audience to understand. She has been recognized by Global Competition Review as “highly regarded, with sought-after expertise on advising Chinese companies on US antitrust law, and vice versa.”

Dr. Deng has consulted extensively for clients faced with litigation and commercial disputes in the United States. For example, in a recent price-fixing case involving major manufacturers of liquid display panels being investigated in multiple jurisdictions, Dr. Deng assisted a defendant with damages analysis and data management during both the criminal and civil stages of the litigation. 

In addition, Dr. Deng is an expert on the antitrust and IP policies of the People’s Republic of China. She recently testified in a Chinese court on Standard Essential Patent (SEP) issues. She has served as an outside economics consultant to the Anti-Monopoly Bureau under the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) in a number of merger review and investigation cases, including Thermo Fisher/Life TechnologiesUPS/TNT Express, Western Digital/Hitachi, and Seagate/Samsung, and has advised multinational corporations on a number of mergers and antitrust investigations in China. Dr. Deng has also been actively involved in providing advice and comments to all three of China’s antitrust agencies regarding their guidelines and procedures, and was a guest lecturer on competition economics at Renmin University in Beijing.

Dr. Deng also has substantial experience assisting clients in ITC 337 cases, providing economic analysis of the likely effects of an exclusion order on the public interest, the existence of a domestic industry protected by the asserted patents, and the appropriate bond.

Dr. Deng is an editor of the American Bar Association (ABA) publication The Antitrust Source. Her publications have appeared in American Law and Economics Review, Antitrust Law Journal, Antitrust, The Antitrust Source, CPI Antitrust Chronicle, Intellectual Asset Management Magazine, Journal of Antitrust Enforcement, Law360, and Caixin.com. Dr. Deng also co-authored chapters in the ABA Section of Antitrust Law volume Issues in Competition Law and Policy and in China’s Anti-Monopoly Law – The First Five Years.
