Apr 1, 2013
Dr. Fei Deng discussed the merger review process conducted by China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), in The Deal Magazine. Dr. Deng stated that “Mofcom's Anti-Monopoly Bureau ‘is a small team compared to its U.S. or the EU counterparts and they get a comparable number of cases.’” Commenting on MOFCOM’s relatively longer duration review process as compared to other international antitrust agencies, Dr. Deng explained that “[t]hey are working with limited resources, doing their best, but that does mean it will take longer."
Dr. Deng’s commentary was particularly timely as one of the main parties discussed in the article, Glencore International, just received approval from the Chinese government to takeover Xstrata plc.
